O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the works thy hands have made,
I see the stars, I hear the *rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.
Last night as a storm moved in and we looked out at it from our new home’s windows, I was struck with the power of God. Our home sits on a hill and our windows on the first floor even look down into a ravine. This tree-filled ravine leads to a creek and a pretty big waterfall. Opening our windows last night for fresh air, I could hear the mighty water rushing by and it made me think of God’s power in our lives.
Life can be tough. We seem to never expect the things that come our way. So many times we look around and wonder, “why.” But our God is already in our future and knows the paths we are going to take. He is already seeing how circumstances in our life will work together for our good and for His purpose. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
When through the woods and forest glades I wander
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees,
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze.
While we do not live in the Rocky Mountains, the power and beauty of the hills around us make me think about our powerful God. The Catskill Mountains are a part of the Appalachian Range. Our mountains are lush with green beauty right now and it seems every time we step out our door they look different. I’m going to love watching them throughout the seasons and observing the greatness of God in them. “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.” (Psalm 121:1)
God’s creation, God’s work in us; we can daily say—
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee:
How great thou art! How great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee:
How great thou art! How great thou art!
