How important it is for our children to know the stories in the Bible. I have written a children’s devotional book helping them do just that. Here is one of the stories. You can purchase a copy of the book here.
Exodus 1 – 6
Moses was born in a dark time
His people were slaves day after day.
God protected Moses and raised him up.
To help the children of Israel escape on their way.
After Joseph’s brothers came to Egypt, Joseph sent them to gather their families and to move to a place called Goshen in Egypt and live together again as a family. Soon Joseph died and a new Pharaoh ruled. He enslaved the children of Israel making them work hard for him. They were sad and they were scared.
At one point, as God blessed them with many children, Pharaoh even ordered all their baby boys to be killed! One family decided they could not let that happen and they hid their baby, Moses, in the bulrushes. A princess came along and found Moses and took him to the palace to raise him as her own. God had this all in His plan.
Moses grew up in riches but he never forgot his people. One day, God called to Moses from a burning bush and told Moses that He would use him to bring the children of Israel out of Egypt and take them to their own country.
Moses was afraid. “And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt? And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee:” (Exodus 3:11-12) God assured Moses that He would be with him. The children of Israel would be able to leave the life of slavery behind and travel to the Promised Land.
Moses had God on his side and God promised to be with him. “Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.” (Exodus 4:12) Fear can always be left behind when God is with us.
Task for today: What is something you fear? Write it down and ask God to take it away.
