Seek Ye First – God’s Kingdom

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”  Matthew 6:33

When we seek His kingdom first the blessings that come are innumerable and the peace we find unmeasurable. I know because I feel blessed daily by God and feel wrapped in His continual love and care. We are seeking His kingdom but also His righteousness. He loves to see us exercising the liberty of righteous living. What does it mean, though, “and all these things, shall be added unto you,”?  If we look in the verses earlier on in the chapter, He is reminding us that our Heavenly Father looks after our daily needs.

Seek ye first the kingdom; not the things of earth.
Priceless are the treasures of immortal worth.
Like a flitting shadow, time will pass away,
But the heav’nly riches change not, nor decay.

We all know that we need daily nourishment for our bodies to survive day by day. Did you know that we also need spiritual daily nourishment as well? When we walk daily with God and read and study His word, we can then be nourished spiritually and strengthened to not only fight off the attacks of Satan but to help others come to Christ or grow in godliness.

Seek ye first the kingdom; seek the gift of God.
’Tis the Savior’s offer, purchased by His blood.
Seek ye first His glory;  be it life’s sweet aim;
Him to serve and honor, trusting in His name.

We only need to ask and God will supply. Sometimes it isn’t always the answer we expect but we can trust it is the right answer. Then, seek and we will find. I love to think that as we read His Word we will find the nugget or truth we need just for that very moment of our life. Knock and the door will be opened unto you is interesting because it takes action on our part. Is there someplace you want to move too or some ministry you want to be involved in and you aren’t quite sure what to do? Knock; be pro-active and He will open as He wills.

How much rest and comfort there is in performing these actions.  Looking back on my life, I see the steps He led me and each path was filled with godly saints helping me along the way. Keep seeking Him and you will find Him.  Deuteronomy 4:29 reminds us, “But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.”

Seek ye first the kingdom, ’tis the Master’s voice;
In His precious promise evermore rejoice.
All things else, His words are true,
Shall be added unto you.
In His precious promise,
Evermore rejoice.
