Does Your Child Know This Story?

Here is an excerpt from my children’s book.  It’s so necessary that we not only encourage our children to read their Bible’s daily but to know the stories from His Word.  The comfort even the simplest stories have given me over the years has been such a blessing.

Here’s one to share with your children today!

The Plagues Of Egypt And The Passover
(Exodus 7:15 – 12:51)

Pharaoh said no but God said go
To the land of promise to live.
Moses led the children of Israel
Out of Egypt as their jewels they did give.

“Let my people go,” is the message that Moses carried to Pharaoh from God.  Of course, Pharaoh hardened his heart and said he would not.  God had plans for His people.  He had promised Abraham a great nation.  When Pharaoh said no, God began to send them plagues to help them to realize the power of God and how He was in control.

What plagues did God send?  First He made all the water turn to blood.  Of course, the children of Israel did not experience these plagues as God protected them.  Next God sent frogs, then lice and then flies to cover the lands of Egypt.  After this came diseases to their animals and then boils which are big open sores all over the body.  God then sent hail as well as locusts and then three days of darkness.

After each of these plagues, Pharaoh would say he would let the people go but then he’d change his mind, harden his heart to God and refuse.  One thing Moses asked Pharaoh was, “…How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before me? let my people go, that they may serve me.” (Exodus 10:3)

The last plague was the saddest.  Every Egyptian family lost their firstborn son even the Pharaoh.  The children of Israel were spared because God told them to get ready to leave, sprinkle the blood of a lamb on their doorposts and eat a simple, unleavened meal.  This was called Passover.  That night when the angel of death came through Egypt and he saw the blood on the doorposts, he passed over those houses so the son did not die.

Task for today:  Have you ever said no to God or the authority in your life?
