We’ve rolled around to Thursday again. I know, keen sense for the obvious!
This week we are still in waiting mode for our furniture to arrive so more camping out at the house. However, we still had things to do like cleaning.
One of the best school subjects you can teach your children is PE and by physical exercise I mean chores!
My children (adults now) that have left home all know how to clean a house and do laundry. They know how to iron and cook and have no problems taking care of themselves. This did not happen overnight. We had to be very intentional about teaching them. This is a basic skill that is lost in our world of instant everything. We have machines for it all.
I’m glad my children know how to keep a house clean but another important aspect of their PE class is yardwork.
We have been blessed with a beautiful rental that has a gorgeous garden but that means some work for upkeep. The girls have pitched right in and Mellie has especially enjoyed the task of trimming and weeding as she discovers what type of plants we have.
We trimmed a lot of hydrangea bushes and have had so many flowers in the house. It will be especially beautiful when I have my vases unpacked!
Here is Mellie trimming the bushes.
I have said often this summer, school doesn’t stop when the textbooks are closed! We continue to learn all throughout our lives and my children are no exception.
Starting young may seem daunting but their training will go with them for a lifetime and set them up for success.
