Precious Book, My Bible

Growing up I have so many memories of seeing my mother reading her Bible and drinking her coffee in the mornings. This produced a peace in me knowing how grounded she was. I love my early mornings spent around God’s Word and getting my day started in those quiet moments. I learned this from my mother.  I have always seen Jesus in her and learned at her side.  I write about that here.

I love my Bible. My parents gave it to me when I graduated high school 35 years ago and since then my husband has had it rebound once for me because it was falling apart. I hope to keep it for many more years.  For the past year or more, I have been writing my Bible out book by book.  I have 34 books written now in journals.  I find writing a few verses of His Word out daily helps keep it in my mind.  It has been such a blessing to study God’s Word in this format.

I’ve also enjoyed taking what I have learned from God’s Word and turning it into some great short devotionals.  You can find them here.

There’s a dear and precious Book,
Though it’s worn and faded now,
Which recalls those happy days of long ago,
When I stood at mother’s knee,
With her hand upon my brow,
And I heard her voice in gentle tones and low.

Blessed Book, precious Book,
On thy dear old tear stained leaves I love to look;
Thou art sweeter day by day, as I walk the narrow way
That leads at last to that bright home above.

They say that a Bible falling apart for means the owner isn’t. I want to live in His Word so that my life is grounded in Him. I learned this from my mom. She lives in the Word. She knows His Word and lives it daily. Now I want my children to see this in me.
