Monday, we talked about “intentional prayers.” What are some examples of intentional prayers in the Bible?
The Nehemiah Prayer
This is a prayer for strength. If you read his prayer, in Nehemiah 1, you will see that he had a huge job before him and he prayed with humbleness where he praises his God and seeks forgiveness of sin and then asks for help. Further in Nehemiah 6:9, he addresses their fears and needs, “For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.”
Words From Ephesians
This powerful prayer in Ephesians 3 is such a beautiful prayer to pray for others. Mention them by name. Think of them as you pray. Intercede before God for them.
Poetry In Psalms
I love the book of Psalms. The book is filled with so many chapters to pray back to God. You really see David’s heart, too, in so many of them. Do you need a simple supplication to start your day? Try Psalm 5:1, “Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my meditation.” My grandma’s favorite Psalm was 121. She lived in Washington and loved her mountains. Today, it has become of favorite of mine, as well.
Utilizing Proverbs
We can pray through verses in Proverbs with confidence that we will find help in time of need. How about Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
Prayers From The Book Of John
John is a great book with so many good things about our Lord. Chapter 15 is a great chapter about Jesus being our vine. How does John 15:5 sound in prayer? “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” Using this verse, we can ask Him to abide in us and do great things for Him through us.
Romans And Salvation
The most important prayer to pray is “God be merciful to me a sinner.” We can pray all the prayers we want but if we don’t acknowledge our need of a Savior as our only way to heaven, then no other prayer matters. Please remember to pray this prayer of salvation and use verses in Romans to help you with this. A good one is Romans 10:9, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
Don’t you love that the Scripture is full of prayers for us to pray. Prayer is simply talking to God. How we choose to do this whether through our own words, Bible verses or songs can help lead us into a day filled with joy and peace.
