Intentional Prayer-How To Pray Daily

It’s a good thing when each month comes to an end
As we’ve spent all our money with no more to spend.
We look over the records to make sure all bills are paid
The income was low but every obligation we made.
Somehow God supplies and we get along
We keep on trusting Him and He gives a song.
God supplies according to His riches in Glory
And we just praise His name and tell His story.’
By prayer we can ask for every need supplied
In trusting Him as He is our guide.
Asking specifically for a need to be met
His will fulfilled as all our needs are set.

The definition of intentional is “done on purpose; deliberate”. When you pray is it intentional?  I know that being intentional in prayer is sometimes a struggle for all of us. Our lives are so busy today and mostly with things that aren’t needed. Technology was supposed to simplify our lives but I’m afraid it hasn’t.

One way to help us be intentional in prayer is to weave Bible verses in.

I sing hymns back to God all the time. I believe that can really bless you.   It is a good way to worship Him!   There are so many great hymns that speak of how great God is. The Bible speaks about intentional praying.  I Ephesians 6:18 says, “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.”  I Thessalonians 5:17 reminds us to, “Pray without ceasing.”

We are called to pray for so many things.

We pray for the needs of others, for ourselves, for the ministry, for our hearts, for healing of ourselves and others, for deliverance and so much more.  Jesus set Himself apart to pray. He was intentional. Luke 5:16 says, “And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.”  God desires to have fellowship with us. He longs for us to come to Him. Learning to be intentional in prayer can become a habit we form over time. Although we should always set aside a quiet time each day to spend with Him, we can also pray intentionally throughout the day.

One great way that I like to practice is as soon as someone on social media reaches out to me or even publicly to ask for prayer; I make sure I pray right then! If our church’s prayer chain comes through, I pray immediately for that request.

Another great way to be intentional in prayer throughout the day is when we are running errands.

Let’s face it we all know that driving and texting or being on our phone is becoming more dangerous. Something that is 99% not dangerous to do: praying.  Pray while you run errands. Pray while you’re sitting waiting to pick the kids up from school; their jobs; their sports events; etc. Fit in times of prayer throughout your day as much as you can.

My favorite prayer is to walk through my house at night praying and praising God for all He has done for us. The house is picked up and the kids are in their rooms and it is quiet. The awe we have for how He has led in our life has left me with so much peace in my heart.   Let’s look, this week, at some intentional prayers you can pray that are Scripture.  You can take some of these and pray them outright.  Learn from those that prayed such powerful prayers throughout the Bible.

Start today with your first intentional prayer.

Ask God to direct your steps so that you are walking in His will.

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.” Psalm 37:23

Steps of a good man
