“…children, then heirs; heirs of God…” Romans 8:17
Everyone wants to belong. We all started out in life with a father and a mother although some people have never known their parents. Adoption is a beautiful thing that gives some children a place to belong in a situation where they might have been forgotten. God wants us to be in His family. He has created all of us in His image but He also gave us a free will to accept or reject Him. To reject Him is to spend an eternity in hell.
But, when we accept God as our Father and Jesus, Son of God, as the Savior of our sins we become a child of the King, adopted and free to spend eternity in His Heaven. John 1:12 gives us such encouragement. “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” We become children of the King when we are saved.
A tent or a cottage, why should I care?
They’re building a palace for me over there;
Though exiled from home, yet still may I sing:
All glory to God, I’m a child of the King.
The author of this beautiful song was Mrs. Harriet Buell. Although she was born in NY and later lived in Washington DC., not much else is known of her. She wrote poetry. We don’t even know much about her husband. They had two boys. We may not know much about Harriet but we know that she was a child of the King and the song title was put on her tombstone for all to remember her by.
Notoriety may come from what family we are born into, what our occupation is on earth or what accomplishments we may have completed but we will take nothing of this with us when we die. We will take only the work that we accomplished for Christ. Bring some souls with you to Heaven. Tell others about Jesus. Let them know about the eternal values of following Him today.
