There’s a tenseness in the air
War clouds are gathering everywhere.
People are worried and it’s no wonder
Country leaders commence to plunder.
In this terrible dangerous hour
Sophisticated politicians reaching for power.
People are crying, “Peace, peace,”
And there is still no release.
Days of darkness over all the land
No one in the world seems to understand.
Could it be possible that we’ve forgotten God?
Or our hearts are filled with doubt and fraud?
Yes, I’m sure it’s because of sin and greed
People are getting tired, but for God see no need.
God still waits with outstretched hand
Ready to heal the ills of a troubled land.
Knowing the Lord and serving Him isn’t the absent of storms but the presence of peace. We will have trials and we will be tempted and tried by the devil but we can have peace. Jesus is all we need. This country will not change without turning back to God but until that time, while we are going through hard times, God is all we need. We can see Him through several things.
Storms
They can be fierce. They can blow out of nowhere and bring in much fury and then pass on their way. We have storms in our lives, too. They come and we have to get down further and longer on our knees to weather them. Remember though that we do know the Master of the seas, the wind and the storms.
“But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy. And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm. And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.” Luke 8:23-25
How amazing and how grand that Jesus so calmly rebuked the storm and it ceased. Is our faith strong enough to know that He can perform this miracle in our lives? We may have a few storms to weather and some may be longer than others but He is there and He is not going to forsake us. We can have peace in the midst of the storm and sail through it joyfully singing.
Sickness
We’ve all been there. Those days when sickness hits and you’re just wondering how much more you can deal with. As moms, we have to face it often as flu sweeps through the house or head colds come and come again. It can feel like the sickness will never leave and life will never return to the sunshine of healthy days again. Take heart, these days can and will pass.
Then there are the sicknesses that are chronic but not terminal. These are the difficult ones as we deal day in and day out with pain and issues that we know will be with us the rest of our lives. I am a chronic pain sufferer but I praise God that He daily gives strength and as the Great Physician, He knows exactly what I need day by day.
I pray every morning to give me strength as my day. I’m not going to ask for tomorrow’s strength or worry about tomorrow. “Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;” Psalm 103:1-3
Shattered
When the heart is broken and the cares press down; when life is just buzzing by and you’re not even sure who you can turn to, we have the answer! We can turn to our Savior! He takes the broken-hearted and He heals. “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,…” (Isaiah 61:1) Who is Isaiah referring, too? He is referring to Jesus.
I love it when we can go through the New Testament and see the Old Testament quoted. In Luke we find almost the identical words when Jesus let people know why He did come. “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,” (Luke 4:18). If He is here to bind up the brokenhearted then why do we wait so long to go to Him?

I have been blessed so much in my life. I cannot complain. God has been so near to me. I have had trials. Yes, I have been shattered. I have been broken beyond belief but, I am not discouraged and I’m certainly not depressed. I feel as if God has given me joy unspeakable and it just daily is with me. God is already in all my tomorrows. Every day I can truly say, “It is well, with my soul.”
