“Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.” Exodus 20:12
Every year on Mother’s Day we stop to think about the person who brought us into the world, took care of us when we were helpless and guided us through our formative years.
Some have had a mother such as this. Others have not had mothers who loved them. On this day (and every day), I am forever grateful for the faith and love of my mother.
Her faith in her Savior is what led me to my faith in my Savior. Her mother had this faith, too and now my children have the same faith. Multi-generational faith can lead to strong families. Teaching the next generation at times feels daunting and as if we are fighting a losing battle but know that it has an impact!
We make a stronger impact on our children when we daily live our faith in front of them. When they see our sacrifices to not just material wealth but godly giving over of ourselves to higher standards in order to teach them that walking the narrow path still is the best way. Motherhood is about showing peace in the midst of storms and conflicts. Mothers that want to live for God can bring a calm in every storm that passes understanding.
I’ll be singing this song today at church about the faith our mothers have but I’ll be thinking about MY mother who’s faith resembles everything talked about in this song.
Faith of our mothers, living still
In cradle song and bedtime prayer;
In nursery lore and fireside love,
Thy presence still pervades the air:
Faith of our mothers, living faith!
We will be true to thee to death.
Faith of our mothers, loving faith,
Fount of our childhood’s trust and grace,
Oh, may thy consecration prove
Source of a finer, nobler race:
Faith of our mothers, loving faith,
We will be true to thee till death.
Faith of our mothers, guiding faith,
For youthful longing, youthful doubt,
How blurred our vision, blind our way,
Thy providential care without:
Faith of our mothers, guiding faith,
We will be true to thee till death.
Faith of our mothers, Christian faith,
Is truth beyond our stumbling creeds,
Still serve the home and save the Church,
And breathe thy spirit through our deeds:
Faith of our mothers, Christian faith!
We will be true to thee till death.
