Work While We It Is Still Day

“For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.” II Thessalonians 3:10

Labor Day has always been an oxymoron to me.  In looking up the history of Labor Day, I see that it was to celebrate work.  Celebrate the jobs we have!

Gratitude is a key part of celebrations.

Work is something that we all should be glad to do.  It should be something we are grateful for every day.

My husband is very grateful for his current job after being out of work for 9 months.  He applied at over 900 jobs, went to many interviews but then had to wait and keep looking.  He didn’t sit around not laboring as he kept serving God and his family but he was sure happy to have a 9-5 job again!

I am grateful for the labor I can do around the home each day in spite of my disability.  I am very grateful for the children we have who over the years have helped (and continue to help) me with so much of our day to day work.

God created in us a desire to work.  If we do not have that desire then it is our flesh working against us.  We need to daily fight this flesh and instead work while we still have time here on earth to make a difference.

The difference being seeing souls saved.  This is truly the most (and best) work we can do here on earth!

So, are we working?  The night IS coming!

Work, for the night is coming,
Work through the morning hours;
Work while the dew is sparkling,
Work ’mid springing flow’rs.
Work when the day grows brighter,
Work in the glowing sun;
Work, for the night is coming,
When man’s work is done.
Work, for the night is coming,
Work through the sunny noon;
Fill brightest hours with labor,
Rest comes sure and soon.
Give every flying minute
Something to keep in store;
Work, for the night is coming,
When man works no more.
Work, for the night is coming,
Under the sunset skies;
While their bright tints are glowing,
Work, for daylight flies.
Work till the last beam fadeth,
Fadeth to shine no more;
Work, while the night is dark’ning,
When man’s work is o’er.
