Consequences surround our daily life. We may have consequences for walking in a cold rain and come down with a cold. We might have a consequence come when we forget to study for a test and fail it. It might be that we sin and the sin comes with a consequence that may last for a short while or for a lifetime. Life is full of consequences to our actions.
Jesus came to save us from not only eternity in hell but He came to show us a life that can be relatively free of consequences when we fix our heart and mind on Him. How can we do this? We first accept Him as our Savior and then we walk with Him daily by reading His Word and keeping fellowship with Him through prayer. Keep that way clear and nothing between.
Nothing between my soul and the Savior,
So that His blessèd face may be seen;
Nothing preventing the least of His favor;
Keep the way clear! Let nothing between.
Charles Tindley is said to have been one of the founding fathers of American Gospel music. Son of slaves, he taught himself to read at the age of 17 and would work during the day and study for the ministry at night. He wrote this song after a day when he was in his study working on a sermon. A gust of wind blew his papers about and he thought, “now, now, nothing between.”
A song was then born. If we look at the words we can see that walking with God in sweet fellowship leaves no room for sin or distractions of this world. James 4:8 reminds us of the most important task in life. “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” If we are close to God there will truly be nothing between our soul and the Savior; nothing to distract us as we journey towards Heaven.
Sing this song and after each phrase, “nothing between” say things that could distract us from serving God.
