In times like these you need a Savior,
In times like these you need an anchor;
Be very sure, be very sure
Your anchor holds and grips the solid Rock!
Parenting is the most joyous and yet the most humbling time in an adult’s life. This song just rang true to me this morning as I think about our children and the steps they are taking in their lives.
Our oldest left the home 12 years ago to join the Air Force. He was turning 18 and had his plan. Raising him was one of many blessings I have had but it was also not easy. Of course, I thought toddlerhood was hard. One child to raise and chasing him around since he was an early walker (9 months!).
As the years rolled by and we added five more children (in 20 years) to the family, I began to realize a parent’s prayers are never finished.
They become adults and our training is done but that is when we need to step up our prayers. But, what do we pray for them?
As I prepare to have two more children leave home (we also have a married daughter), what verses am I claiming for them?
My biggest desire is that their anchor will be solidly connected to the Rock, Jesus.
“Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;” Hebrews 6:19
I am praying they trust in God. That they see Him in every path of their lives.
“In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:6
And mostly, I am praying that the biblical training we have endeavored to instill in them will remind my children when life is hard they can turn to God.
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
As hard as it can be to see our children go out into the world not knowing if they will stay close to God, the Lord will give you peace. If your children have Jesus in their hearts, you can rest assured He is with them. He will nudge them and work with your children to see them desiring a life that rests close to Him.
So many emotions will fill my heart this week. As I prepare to see my adult children start off on their own, part of those emotions will be a peace. I know that God is with them and He is truly in control.

“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7
