Where He Leads, Will We Follow?

When we sing this song it church it always gets me thinking about where God has led me for over 50 years. I decided to make a map of my moves and ended up with some pins dropped in places I’ve lived. God has been good.
Each move I have made has left an impact in my life sometimes for total good and sometimes in trials but always in God’s will and always grateful for His goodness and the people He has brought my way. My journey started out in Grand Rapids, MI where I was born. My dad was a professor there and I bounced into their lives to keep them hopping after that. We moved to Flint where my baby sister was born and then on to Watertown, WI where my mom studied for her education degree and my dad taught at Maranatha Baptist Bible College (now Maranatha Baptist University). Soon we made our biggest and most impactful move to Canada (Simcoe to be exact followed by Stoney Creek and Scarborough, all in Ontario). Canada had become our country and it is where I met my husband.

I can hear my Savior calling, I can hear my Savior calling, I can hear my Savior calling, “Take thy cross and follow, follow Me.”

Moving to Montreal after marriage kept me busy learning a new culture and language and about ten years later we made a big decision to move our family of five to the States. We started out in Omaha but quickly found our place in a little town called Fort Madison, IA. Two more joined our family and we set down deep roots in this town that will forever impact us because of the amazing church we joined there. Check out their website here and if you are ever near them, Joy Baptist is worth checking out!

Where He leads me I will follow, Where He leads me I will follow, Where He leads me I will follow, I’ll go with Him, with Him all the way.

After this we moved around a bit due to Pierre’s job. It was so hard to leave my church and friends in Iowa but I would always tell the children that we were on an adventure and would make new friends. We could bloom wherever we were planted.

I’ll go with Him through the waters, I’ll go with Him through the waters, I’ll go with Him through the waters, I’ll go with Him, with Him all the way.

When we arrived in Shawnee, OK, I experienced two life changing events. We had Melanie in our old age and this pushed me into full blown hEDS (find info on this here). God was still there and we were still following. He led us back to Iowa in 2017 which was amazing and for a short time we were once again home. My health continued to decline so Pierre made the decision to take a job in Florida where the weather was a much better fit for me. God led once again. So many places lived in and so many changes over the years. Two children grown, married and living far away from us but still God led.

He will give me grace and glory, He will give me grace and glory, He will give me grace and glory, And go with me, with me all the way.

Through the years we have never doubted God’s will in our lives and we always sought out good churches even before we settled into a new town. Having God lead the way brings a peace and even a joy that we can follow and find true fulfillment every day of our lives. May we ever follow Psalm 143:10, “Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.”
