“Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” Ephesians 5:16
Have you ever met an older person who says they would live their life differently if they could go back? As a young person, you have the perfect opportunity to live a life fully surrendered to God now. Then you will not have any regrets when you get to retirement age. If we learn while we are young the joys of serving God and living a life of holiness then we will not have regrets when we step out of this earth and into eternity.
“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Psalm 90:12
Learning to live for God now helps develop in us godly habits that will stick with us the rest of our lives. When we surrender to His will daily in the little things of life today, this will make it easier to surrender too much larger tasks when we become adults.
O the years in sinning wasted,
Could I but recall them now,
I would give them to my Savior,
To His will I’d gladly bow.
Charles Luther, a Baptist Minister in the late 1800’s is said to be a direct descendent of Martin Luther. He is also one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Luther was a hymn writer, too, and one day heard the story of a young man who was about to die. He had just accepted God but was bemoaning the fact that he wasted so many years of his life on earthly activities and not in serving the Lord.
He said, “I am not afraid to die; Jesus saves me now. But must I go empty handed?” From this story came this song. Luther recognized that people waste a lot of time in their lives on earthly pursuits and he wanted to encourage them to serve God now and serve Him while they were young. We can make our path a little easier, too, by serving with others. When we have a companion to serve God with we have an encourager, too!

Find a friend to walk the road of life with and help you to serve God.
