This World Does Not Provide Our Rest

“He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.” Psalm 107:29-30

Life is hard.  The paths we tread even as Christians are not always easy and yet we live with an eternal promise in mind.  Rest.  We will be given rest for our souls and the ability to be with our Savior eternally.  We need to rest in this knowledge and come into the haven that is our Lord!

My soul in sad exile was out on life’s sea,
So burdened with sin and distressed,
Till I heard a sweet voice, saying,
Make Me your choice;
And I entered the Haven of Rest!
I yielded myself to His tender embrace,
In faith taking hold of the Word,
My fetters fell off, and I anchored my soul;
The Haven of Rest is my Lord.
The song of my soul, since the Lord made me whole,
Has been the old story so blest,
Of Jesus, who’ll save whosoever will have
A home in the Haven of Rest.
O come to the Savior, He patiently waits
To save by His power divine;
Come, anchor your soul in the Haven of Rest,
And say, My Belovèd is mine.
I’ve anchored my soul in the Haven of Rest,
I’ll sail the wide seas no more;
The tempest may sweep over wild, stormy, deep,
In Jesus I’m safe evermore.

Listen to our pastor and his wife sing this beautiful song and then here is another verse the author wrote that we do not have in our hymnal.

How precious the thought that we all may recline,
Like John, the belovèd so blest,
On Jesus’ strong arm, where no tempest can harm,
Secure in the Haven of Rest.

If we can understand that our rest is in knowing Jesus as our Savior we will be able to rest in Him day after day when the hard times come.

“And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.” Exodus 33:14
