Serving Anywhere Anytime

“Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.” I Samuel 12:24

I am blessed.

The opportunity I have every day to serve a great God thrills me.  I am not in “full time ministry” as the label goes in churches today.  But I am a full time Christian.  As such, I have the privilege of serving an Almighty God!

My husband and I both grew up in pastor’s homes and as young people we helped out in so many areas in the church.  Sometimes it was volunteering and sometimes we were “voluntold.”  This set the foundation for our married life.  As we entered the past 32 years of married life, we coveted to serve God together.  Looking back I can’t imagine serving God with anyone else but Pierre.  He has set a beautiful example not only for me but for our six children, our son-in-law and our daughter-in-law.

I love serving God.

Always, I have thrived best when being in church doing something for the Lord before, after and during the service.  I love being challenged by the sermons given and usually have many sermon notes written and many things to think on during the week.

Serving God may have physical challenges like giving up your Sunday to help in the different aspects of the church or, it may be that you get tired and weary and drink a few additional cups of coffee.  One of my physical challenges has come with my chronic  pain and the realization that I’m not as young as I used to be but the Lord is teaching me that HE is my strength so I can still serve Him.

Sometimes it is just getting tracts ready for the family to hand out.  Other times it is practicing a song with the girls.  Lately I have taken on a bigger responsibility of signing for the deaf in our church but even there, God has given strength.

And how does He bless?

In return, not only is He giving me strength as my day but He is bestowing countless blessings, large and small, each time I’m in church.  The smiles and encouragement from the deaf as I think of a sign and get it right.  The joy of singing praise to our powerful God with my hands. Communicating with the elderly in our church as we reach out and check on them is also a powerful way to serve our God.  Participating in the music is one of my favorite ways to serve Him.

You may not think you have talent and you may wonder how you can serve God this week but I have a friend who has been great at mailing tracts to street after street in whatever town they live in.  THIS is something most of us could do.  Sharing the gospel is, after all, the reason we are here to serve God.

So, it doesn’t matter where you live now, or where you might live in the future.  Life is about serving God anytime, anywhere and in any place you abode.  I was writing out the deaf interpretation for one of the songs we will be singing today and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about the words.

Anywhere with Jesus I can safely go,
Anywhere He leads me in this world below;
Anywhere without Him dearest joys would fade;
Anywhere with Jesus I am not afraid.
Anywhere, anywhere! Fear I cannot know;
Anywhere with Jesus I can safely go.
Anywhere with Jesus, over land and sea,
Telling souls in darkness of salvation free;
Ready as He summons me to go or stay,
Anywhere with Jesus when He points the way.
Anywhere, anywhere! Fear I cannot know;
Anywhere with Jesus I can safely go.

God might not summon you to go to a far away land but that doesn’t mean we can not serve Him right in our own home, the town we live in or the church we attend.  All we can be is ready, willing and serving.

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” I Corinthians 15:58
