“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”
Romans 15:13
This song was written by an English professor, Henry Van Dyk who taught at Princeton in 1899.
Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee,
God of glory, Lord of love;
Hearts unfold like flow’rs before Thee,
Op’ning to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness;
Drive the dark of doubt away;
Giver of immortal gladness,
Fill us with the light of day!
He wrote this song upon seeing the beautiful Berkshire mountains in MA in 1907. He let it be known that it could be sung to Beethoven’s “Hymn to Joy”. What better way to start a Sunday than to sing about joy? This should take you to church with a song on your heart!
