Jamestown Colony Is Founded

“And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:” Genesis 12:2

This verse was given as as promise to Israel.  But if we, as a nation, follow God, we WILL have His blessing on our nation!

The birth of our nation didn’t exactly start with the Pilgrims but rather with a group of men and boys.  Three ships carrying 104 passengers left England in December, 1606, and arrived in the New World in 1604.  It was in May that they land in North America.  They settled in and named their town Jamestown in honor of King James I. This was the first permanent settlement in America.

Why did they choose Jamestown?

This was an area approved by the Virginia Company that was funding their adventure.  The land was also surrounded on three sides and the waterways were deep enough to bring their ships in right to the shoreline.  They settled in and their council members already selected back in England by the Virginia Company led them in the building of this first town.

By June, the fort was complete!  It was built in a triangle shape so as to help protect the colonist from the Indians who lived in the area.

America was being formed and with it would come years of men establishing towns and preparing the way to bring families over.

This is just a very brief look at Jamestown but you can read a full account here.  Our nation’s history should be known and taught to our children as much as we can.

God bless the USA.

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” II Chronicles 7:14
