“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Psalm 90:12
I woke up this morning from a VERY short sleep last night. It is Monday and I was trying to figure out how we got back around to Monday so quickly! Seems the older we get, the faster the weeks fly!
Pierre and I heard news last night that had us considering our days. We are now in our 50’s which is still relatively young, right?
Pierre grew up friends with a pastor’s daughter from another town. The two families hung out together. Her parents were led to the Lord by Pierre’s father. Later her father went into the ministry.
I remember going to her wedding after we were married. She married a Christian man who was in the military up in Canada. He wore his uniform for the wedding. It was such a gorgeous wedding in a beautiful old historic city.
We had our first children close in age and I remember taking a six weeks old Jonathan to her brother’s wedding. She had her newborn daughter with her. Life was marching on.
Flash forward almost 30 years and 10 kids later (between the two families).
We heard yesterday that her husband graduated to Glory.
It had us saddened (for her) and reflecting on our lives as well. They were both in seemingly great health. He was retired and they traveled often. Their children grown. Life was just great. I was enjoying seeing where they traveled and what they saw. (Geography for me is fascinating as is history)
God called him home. God will call all of us home one day. He knows when our last breath is. As a Christian, this leaves us with no fear knowing that we have an eternal rest for our souls. However, it also made me think how short life really is and am I making every moment count for God ? I don’t need each moment to count for me. Earthly accomplishments and awards mean little in the light of eternity.

“For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” James 4:14
