Happy Wife, Happy Life?

How come we are sometimes lonely
When I have you and you have me?
Ignore each other and we drift apart
Talk of the love that fills each heart.
Our marriage was made up in Heaven
Anger flares try counting to seven.
Remembering always, Christ is our Head
Careful not to take His place instead.
Let us talk all our differences through
And do our best our fellowship to renew.
Try to understand and do our very best
We love God and let Him do the rest.

Proverbs 18:22 says, “Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord.”  We all have heard the saying, “happy wife, happy life”. Truly when the wife is happy, she does set the tone for the family life. However, what should make the wife happy and where does her happiness come from?  First, our happiness comes from a feeling and our joy comes from our Savior. Feelings do come and go so happiness needs to be re-examined and defined biblically. Webster’s definition of happiness is: The agreeable sensations which spring from the enjoyment of good. When, then, are we happy?

A Happy Wife Comes When Our Spiritual Life is Strong

How many times have we woke up late and rushed out to do our duties in the home and forgotten to take time; quiet time with God? I do believe that you can set a greater tone in the home when you rise earlier than the others and spend time alone with God.

When we get married we know that two become one.  But we still have a personal walk with God that we need to nourish. Jesus loved to rise early and go apart to a quiet place. Psalm 5:3 says, “My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.” And we all know the words in Psalm 119:11 that say, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Are you a happy wife spiritually?

A Happy Wife Comes from a Serving Heart

There is nothing more satisfying than serving others. I also think that a wife can set the tone in the home for a happy life by being a servant to all that live there. If we, as wives, serve our husbands, they in turn will serve us. I’m not going to go into a deep discussion of submission but I do believe God gave roles in life for our specific genders that if we follow then we will be both serving each other and thus our homes will be peaceful and happy.

Ephesians 5:21 says, “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.” As a Christian, we should be willing to submit to the Lord daily in what He asks of us, right? As a wife, we should be able to submit to our husbands because he has the greater role to be like Christ in the home. Verse 25 tells us, “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;” He has the responsibility to not only love us but lead us and even give his life for us if need be. Are you a happy wife in serving?

A Happy Wife Comes from a Satisfied Household

As we serve our husbands daily whether it is making him an egg sandwich or folding his laundry or even making sure the house is cleaned when he gets home from work; we will see a peace in him that will satisfy us. We will have peace, harmony and joy. Isn’t that a great plan? What am I saying? I’m saying that a wife can satisfy her husband and household daily by making sure she works hard to keep the house peaceful, clean and ready for her husband’s return.

It also makes for well-behaved children when we have a satisfied household.  Are you a happy wife with a satisfied household?  Proverbs 31:11-12, “The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.  She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.”  A happy wife comes from a godly wife who cares for others first and runs her household in a godly manner.  This in turn will give the household (everyone) a happy life.
