Two happy people by death made lonely
Still seeking God and for His will only.
Two lonely people yet many miles apart
Each seeking God to fill the empty heart.
Two lonely people God’s will must know
Not yet quite sure which way they’d go.
Finally brought together in God’s own way
Meant for each other from that very day.
No longer lonely both hearts thrilled
Now both hearts with joy at last filled.
Two happy people no longer in tears
May comfort each other for many years.
God is good and our needs are always met. I’m grateful, too, that I can say with the Psalmist in Psalm 37:25, “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.” If you are a child of God, then you can say that verse with me. We have a Heavenly Father Who owns all and cares about His own.
In fact, the Bible tells us He owns all the cattle on a thousand hills! Psalm 50:10, “For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.” He has all the wealth we could need. Philippians 4:19 reminds us, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
My grandfather wrote this poem after losing his beloved first wife and being so lonely. I don’t remember much of my first grandmother as I was only about 8 when she passed away. I do remember going to Washington State for her funeral and the month we spent with my grandpa after. He was lonely but he trusted God and shortly thereafter met his second wife who is the grandma I remember most. Grandma Mabel was just what he needed. I never saw my grandpa worry over his future. He trusted God and overcame the worries and doubts that Satan likely threw his way. How did he do so?
Faith Over Fear
Remember the storm on the Sea of Galilee? The disciples were scared and what did Jesus remind them? Matthew 8:26 “And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.” When our faith slips, our fears return. Have faith that God is in control of His universe and you do not need to worry.
Wisdom Over Worry
“Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?… for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.” (Matthew 6:31-32) Have we ever accomplished anything by worrying about where our next meal will come from or if we have clothes to wear? At the end of the day, we take no thought of it, really. We walk through our day, shopping, preparing and eating our food or wearing our clothes. We know that we will have enough.
Enough is the key word for this world. We do not need abundance in this world because we know that we are laying up treasures in abundance in heaven as we seek to do His will. The wisdom found here is to leave the worry aside. We need to take those worries and turn them into prayers of praise to God that He is caring for us at this very moment. When tomorrow comes, repeat! Pray not worry!
Prayer Over Panic
Panic is defined as: sudden uncontrollable fear or anxiety, often causing wildly unthinking behavior. This certainly describes panic. How can we conquer the panic? The Bible encourages us to “Pray without ceasing” (I Thessalonians 5:17) Does this mean we walk around constantly mumbling prayers? No, but we can pray continually by reading back the promises in the Bible to God (His promises) and by singing throughout our day those beautiful hymns that hold so much truth. We can talk to God as we would our best friend because He is with us and wants to hear from us.
When we do sit and pray, we can pray intelligently for direction in our life and calmness so we do not panic. I like to use logic when worry and panic want to set in. I like to say to myself, “what is the worst case scenario” and dial it back from there. Usually, it doesn’t seem so bad then. Praying over our panic has a way of making us remember, too, that our God is bigger than this world and its problems. Our God owns this world and can heal the land or take the Christians to heaven and start His plan to make a new heaven and new earth.
