Moms are special beings who seem to have superpowers while exhausted. However, sometimes just stopping to take time to read to your children is all the break you need.
Therefore, let’s celebrate mothers this month in the books we read, the places we go and the things we do. I love reading to the children and I have read everything from short board books for babies up to classics written by Dickens or Lucy Maud Montgomery. I have a wide range of children (20 years between the oldest and youngest) and always included all who were at home in my reading. This translated to the older ones loved hearing the baby books just as much as the younger ones enjoyed the chapter books. All it takes is 10-15 minutes a day and your children will fall in love with reading.
“Are You My Mother” is one I have read to all my children going back to our first over 28 years ago. Consequently, they have all loved it, in part because I always had a squeaky voice for the main character. Make it fun and they will want more!

This well-worn book was written by P. D. Eastman who was a protege of Dr. Suess. He had his own style and this book does not fail us. The story is about a little baby bird in search of his mother (no spoiler alerts) is so adorable that you’ll find yourself reading this book to your children so many times it will end up looking like ours. The pictures are simple but so sweet and the ending doesn’t disappoint.
This month, let’s honor the women who gave birth to us, took care of us and loved us unconditionally.
