A Lord Delighter In Your Daily Walk

I know it is Monday and we are all trying to get in gear for the week.  Sunday was an amazing day in God’s house and I know God was happy that we went to His House.  My husband mentioned in a family devotional recently we should be Lord delighters instead of list obeyers (his word not mine). This struck a chord with me because so many of us like to write lists in our Christian lives and then check things off.

More importantly than keeping to a list is obeying, loving and doing as the Lord in His Word directs us. Being free from a list of do’s and don’ts does not mean liberty to live as we please but liberty to live in the Spirit and by the Spirit. It means to be a Lord delighter. Galatians 5:25 says, “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

How do we live in the Spirit? The verses before this verse give us clear direction. We know them and we all have seen the cute journals and decor with them listed but do we live them? “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” (verses 23, 24)

Another way to be a Lord delighter is found in Psalm 37:23, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.” If our steps are ordered by God then it should be a delight to live in His way. And how are our steps ordered by Him?

Matthew Henry says it best when he explains it in this way, “By his grace and Holy Spirit he directs the thoughts, affections, and designs of good men.” If the Lord is directing us through His Spirit then we need only to study His Word in order to know what He would have us to do.

This doesn’t mean we fall on a list to know where this Christian life is taking us. This does mean we get to have this amazing relationship with the Holy Spirit and follow His leading. We will only have this relationship though when we are in His Word.

Being a Lord delighter then falls to knowing His Word and having a close relationship with the Holy Spirit. I’ve been encouraged to know God more through His Word and studying Who He is. It becomes such a heart yearning and a what joy in knowing our God.

Let me be a Lord delighter, living daily in His Word.
Let me see the Lord reflected in all I say and all I do.
Then when others see my journey as a Lord delighter true.
I can be a witness for Him shining my light in the dark world, too.

Our family has played and sang this song many times. This tune is different but so beautiful. Remember that those He delights in, He also keeps!
