Teaching Your Child The Habit Of Reading

“Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.” (I Timothy 4:13)

How do we teach our children to read their Bible daily?  Why do they need it even?  Having this beautiful habit of meeting with God in the morning sets the tone for their day.  It teaches them to turn to Him for all their needs.  As a young child, Melanie, has always participated in family devotions with us. When she learned to read, we let her read the Bible verses, too.

What can she read as a 9 year old to help her get into the habit of reading her Bible daily?

I have a great book for her to read.  It can help her get into the habit of reading her Bible.   She gets to learn about some fascinating characters in the Bible.  Melanie will be able to see where in the Bible they are located.  She can look up the references and read through her Bible as she learns the great stories of God’s Word.  This is why I wrote the book!

One way to get the habit instilled in our children (of reading God’s Word) is not only daily family devotions but seeing their parents reading their Bibles, as well.  I write here about how I developed a habit of daily reading God’s Word.

I’ve already published three devotional book for adults but it’s been on my heart to have a devotional for children that would inspire them to learn about God and encourage them to look up Scripture.  You can never do too much to instill the Word of God in their lives especially as you see the help it gives them when they are adults and on their own.

You can find it here. The age level is ages 8+ and really they will enjoy it!

“And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:  And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.” (Deuteronomay 6:6,7)
