Corgiville Fair by Tasha Tudor

This book is going to be a definite favorite in our home.  Our most favorite is Tasha Tudor’s book, A Time To Keep.

Tasha Tudor was an author/illustrator who’s life was lived in simplicity.  She kept to the era she lived growing up and enjoyed tending her garden and taking care of her many corgis.

Her website shows us a glimpse into this beautiful book.

In Corgiville, as in many small towns all over America, the biggest event of the year is the fair. The sights, sounds, smells, and all the fun and excitement of a typical small-town fair are captured with humor and affection both in the text and in the marvelously detailed watercolor paintings. Tasha Tudor has woven a highly imaginative story from various themes and events of her life, including a peculiar Swedish troll species known as boggarts, which seem to be imbued with slightly naughty characteristics. Though written for children, adults seem unable to resist the charm of Corgiville, and it has enthralled families for generations.

Whether you just want to visit this book time and time again for the story or for the illustrations, you will not be disappointed.  There is something new to see each time.  You will want to hit the road for a drive through the countryside after reading it.

I love our rural life where we wind our way through mountain roads to get to church.  Our weekly grocery shopping trips take us down country roads into a small city.  We are far enough away from cities to feel rural but close enough to enjoy the shopping that comes with city living.

However, at the end of the day, the most peaceful way for me to live is in the country.  I think this is one of the reasons why I relate to Tasha Tudor so well.  If you can get ahold of her books, hang on to them!
