Webster’s Dictionary defines surrender as: to yield to the power of another. When we become a Christian, we recognize ALL that Jesus did for us and so a surrender to His will should be something simple and easy to give back to Him. This is not always easy to do but as we walk the Christian path we can learn that to surrender ourselves to His will is to find joy and peace that provides a light to all those we come in contact with us.
It is our testimony when we show we have a surrendered heart. “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus…he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” (Philippians 2:5, 8) Surrender takes humility as our Lord showed us but look at the life we are given with full surrender. Full surrender equals full peace and joy.
All to Jesus, I surrender;
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.
Mr. Van DeVinter has written many songs but this song was written after a turning point in his life. “For some time I had struggled between developing my talents in the field of art and going into full-time evangelistic work. At last the pivotal hour of my life came, and I surrendered all. A new day was ushered into my life. I became an evangelist and discovered down deep in my soul a talent hitherto unknown to me. God had hidden a song in my heart, and touching a tender chord, He caused me to sing.”
If we surrender to the will of God He WILL show us talents we may never have known we had. His will is always perfect. “Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.” (Ephesians 5:17) We can also never go wrong being in the center of His will for our lives.
