Walking With Jesus Today

“…because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:” I Peter 2:21

Walking is a great activity to do especially in the fall up north when the leaves are changing colors and the air is crisp.  Walking day by day through our life can be invigorating like a fall hike or can be a weary trudging along like when you must walk through a blinding snowstorm.

Life has days of mountain top joys and low valleys of sorrows but never, as Christians, are our walks without our Savior.  Psalm 37:23 shows us clearly how Jesus is our guide.  “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.”  But not only is Jesus walking with us, He has walked before us.  He journeyed here on earth enduring temptations and fatigue, harassment and hunger.  So to walk with Him IS a joy because He knows the way!

It is glory just to walk with Him,
He will guide my steps aright
Through the vale and o’er the height,
It is glory just to walk with Him.

Avis Christiansen is said to have written many many hymns that reflect not only the love she had for her Lord but also showed how deeply spiritual she was.  She knew the Scripture and could weave it into her poetry.  She grew up being encouraged by a godly grandmother to serve the Lord and she wrote her first poem at the age of 10.

I can just imagine her asking God to help her and praying these verses found in Psalm 25:4-5.  Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths.  Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.”  Knowing the Scriptures helps us walk closely with our Savior.  Praying them back to God is a reverent way to show Him we are listening to His Word.  His guidance is the most important guide you will have in this life.

What Scripture would you say is your favorite?  Which one is a challenge to you to live daily for God?

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,” Psalm 1:1
