“Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.” Proverbs 9:9
Awe the joys of summer! What is that nursery rhyme?
No more pencils,
No more books,
No more teacher’s dirty looks.
I remember saying that as a kid but never really meaning it. I loved school and enjoyed doing the work. I wasn’t like most children if you haven’t figured that one out yet!
But in the joys of homeschooling (and mothering), I am realizing that learning is never finished. School is never done. Education is an ongoing experience and the summer offers limitless possibilities.
One experience Mellie had this week was going grocery shopping with her older sister. Stephanie is our grocery shopper and does an incredible job, not only in feeding us great meals that are healthy and filling but also in staying on budget.
Pierre said it is time for Mellie (10) to start learning budgeting and shopping.
She had so much fun. She learned that you plan some meals for the week. You then, make your shopping list off of said meals. After this you grab your bags (Aldi is where they do most of the shopping) and head out the door. Once there you can look for the best produce and the items that are not past their expiration date. Paying is a bit easier these days than in mine. There is no need to count out exact change, etc. but the need is there to stay on budget, stay aware of the the cashier is ringing up and make sure you’re not being charged double.

Mellie came home from this experience just thrilled to have gone and asked if she could go again. Let’s hope Stephanie feels the same way!
