Grateful For Godly Leadership

I am so grateful for sermons heard
So uplifting and right from God’s Word.
It is then that I receive a brand new start
With peace and joy refilling my heart.
Our Pastor’s preaching so fulfilling to hear
I enjoy the presence of Christ so dear.
Every message I find so inspiring
Always so fresh and never is tiring.
God was so good to send us His man
One Who would reveal to us God’s plan,
He is truly the man whom God is using,
Because He was the man of God’s choosing.

“Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.” (I Timothy 5:17) How can we give honor to our pastor?  Unity in the church starts with loyalty to the leadership.  I think this is so vital to the health of the church. With all the responsibilities they have in the church, can we be an Aaron and a Hur and lift their arms up via helping take some of the other duties off them to ease their way? What can we do for them?

Pray

Prayer is a vital part of a Christian’s life and a part we should work on daily to stay in close fellowship with God. We can pray much for our pastor in just a few areas and still be a blessing. Here are some things we can pray about.

Philippians 1:3-5 says, “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,  Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,  For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now.” We can be thankful for our pastors but also make requests for them with joy. Ask God to give them strength, safety and wisdom. Pray with joy and you won’t have a reason to complain about them!

Check On Them

If you think of it, they need spiritual help at times, too. Just knowing that the church family cares about them enough to reach out to them is a big encouragement. Find out what needs they have and do your best to help them! I Thess. 5:12, 13 says, “And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;  And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves.”

Be Thankful

Jeremiah 3:15 says, “And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.” We have a pastor that does just that.  He feeds us well.  God promised to give us pastors who would help us grow. Be thankful for them! Thank God for them and then show your gratefulness by supporting them wholeheartedly and telling them this!

Submit

We can follow our pastor and listen to them. We will definitely reap eternal benefits and blessings here on earth when we do! Their job is tough. They have to answer for our church. This should be enough of a sobering thought to us that we are more than willing to help out as well as to submit to them. Hebrews 13:17 says, “Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.”

Bless

Just remember to bless them and to tell them so. Remind them how much you appreciate them and their family. Thank them for the sermons. Remember it is a blessing for a pastor, not only to see his congregation all come to church but to participate in the services, as well. Numbers 6:24-26, “The Lord bless thee, and keep thee:  The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:  The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”

A pastor is worthy of double honor because they have so much to answer for. Remember this next time you want to slack off at church or grumble. God is faithful and will keep our pastors faithfully in the pulpit.
