Mystery Books Meet Famous Landmarks

Every kid loves a good mystery. Throw in famous landmarks and two crazy teens and you’ve got a winning series.  As an adult, I have come to love historical novels as a great way to learn about history.  Now, I find myself looking up famous people and landmarks that I come across  and this furthers my education.
Years ago when I was a teen, my parents found these books by Eric Wilson.   I was raised in Canada and was excited to recognize landmarks that I had heard about in school or even visited. Eric Wilson has done a great job of weaving in famous landmarks and chapter endings so suspenseful you just have to keep reading.  Most of the landmarks are in Canada but there are some USA ones, as well.  The Disneyland Hostage was written with great suspense throughout and every book keeps you guessing as to who the criminal is. My favorite book has been Lost Treasure Of Casa Loma mainly because it takes place in Toronto where I grew up.  As a family, we visited this castle often.   I was able to take my girls to the castle a couple of years ago and they were able to experience what I did as a teen.  This castle was built by a very rich man in Toronto who later lost his fortune.  The castle is now a museum filled with artifacts from so many different walks of life.  My favorite part was always climbing the tiny winding metal stairs up to the towers.
Getting children interested in books seems to be getting harder and harder in our technological world. Having great books does help with this. Want more ideas for summer reading?  Check out this article. There are many places to find these books but as always I highly recommend ThriftBooks. check them out here.
