“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” I Thessalonians 5:18
Have you ever had one of those days or even weeks where nothing went according to plan? Did your day, your life, your plan keep falling off the tracks? It’s easy in this world to get so caught up in life that when plans don’t go how we’d like, we throw a fit or become depressed and believe that nothing is good anymore. As Christians, we don’t have to throw up our hands and declare defeat when we have a bad day because we have the tools at our disposal to get through the battle (we also know Who is winning the war). The best tool is God’s Holy Word.
Holy Bible, book Divine,
Precious treasure, thou art mine;
Mine to tell me whence I came;
Mine to teach me what I am.
In II Timothy 3:17 it says, “…man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” Paul is reminding Timothy that our life can be complete (perfect or mature) and ready to do good but how? We need to go back to verse 16 for the answer. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” Studying God’s Word daily is important because it prepares us for the day, for the battle with the evil of this world, for those mountaintop experiences we have when we are praising God. If we don’t know His Word how can we live a victorious Christian life?
Mine to chide me when I rove;
Mine to show a Saviour’s love;
Mine art thou to guide my feet;
Mine to judge, condemn, acquit.
Philippians 3:10 says, “That I may know him…” To know Christ we need to go to the source of this knowledge, the Bible. Those plans that will go awry today won’t be stopped or even dealt with if we don’t have a Source to lean on.
Want to know His perfect will for your life? This won’t come from meandering down the path of life but by knowledge of Him through His Word. Wondering what plan He has for you? Don’t worry about down the road but be in His Word and fellowshipping with Him. The plan will come later. Knowing in this verse implies an investigation so investigate Christ through the best source possible – His Word.
Mine to comfort in distress;
If the Holy Spirit bless;
Mine to shew, by living faith,
Man can triumph over death.
Is there a perfect (complete) plan for you? Absolutely! God has you in His hand today. Do we need to know the whole plan? No, but we do need to know the Planner. Be in the Word to know His plan for your life.
Mine to tell of joys to come,
And the rebel sinner’s doom;
Holy Bible, book Divine,
Precious treasure, thou art mine.
