Do You Know Your Presidents

“Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” Proverbs 14:24

As we look forward to the celebration of our nation this year in a big way, how much do you know of our Presidents?  How many have we had? Do you know which ones were teachers before they became Presidents? Which President was the first one to live in the White House?

I wanted Melanie to learn about our founding fathers this year and the Presidents who through the years have helped shape our nation.  She is 9 and let’s face it, 9 year old’s do not have much of an attention span.  They are not always avid readers of history, too.  So, how did I solve this problem to teach her in a more relaxed way?

I wrote a book!  But, this book is not some dry old history book but rather a quick fact book.  Do you want just an overview of the Presidents and their time in office?  Who were the First Ladies (not all were wives)?  Pick up this book and keep it as a quick reference.  You can find out who these men were and which ladies helped to serve the country.

Our nation is still a nation where we are free to worship God as we please.  Our founding fathers encouraged that and were strong about their desires that we worship God.  I want my children to know WHO these men are that helped to shape America.  This is why I wrote the book.

Faith of our fathers, we will strive
To win all nations unto thee;
And through the truth that comes from God
Mankind shall then indeed be free.
Faith of our fathers! holy faith!
We will be true to thee till death!

It has pictures of the Presidents and their First Ladies.  There are facts about the party they served under and former jobs, and such.  It also gives a quick or notable fact about them and then a quote.

I am using this book as Melanie’s history course this year as we look at the Presidents.  We also have a few pictures books to look at on them as well.  School doesn’t have to always be dry textbooks (yes, I’m the geek that likes dry textbooks but my children don’t). History needs to be taught, though, so why not make it fun.
