(Guest Writer: Stephanie Geoffrion, my daughter, wrote this when she was 14 years old)
Words are important.
It’s how we say “I love you” or “I’m sorry”.
It’s how we settle arguments or also sometimes create them.
We use words to learn about other things and people.
When we speak, it can:
Harm or Help.
Punish or Praise.
Ruin or Reward
Lose or Love
And the best words ones are in the Bible.
Or you could say the best “Word” is in the Bible! John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
A few other definitions of “the Word”…..
It’s pure: Proverbs 30:5, “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.” Psalms 12:6, “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.”
It’s eternal: Matthew 24:35, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” Isaiah 40:8. “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.”
It’s a light: Psalms 119:105, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
It’s truth: John 17:17, “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”
We need to fashion or model our ways after the way Jesus spoke.
If He’s the Word then following Him should be simple. But that doesn’t mean it will be easy.
And this verse sums it all up: Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Note: Stephanie has always had an old soul and her depth of thinking sometimes surprises me but in reality she has learned so much just even from her daily reading of God’s Word. I appreciate her insight. I hope one day to author a book with her but if you would like more words of encouragement, I have written some books to help you choose joy.
“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Psalm 119:11
