We live in a frightful world. Daily we look around us and see things to worry, stress or fret about and our children are no different.
In a fallen world, not only should our homes be safe harbors but we should also give them some anchors to rely on for calmness in the storms of life. My husband is pretty amazing with this. He leads the children to look in the Bible for help (I usually have a hymn to help them). Here are a few assurances to teach your children.
ASSURANCE OF SALVATION
“And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” (I John 5:11-12) If they know they are saved, this is then the first step in a long line of peaceful moments in their lives. They will know no matter the trouble on earth, it isn’t their final home.
ASSURANCE OF ANSWERED PRAYER
“Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.” (John 16:24) Teach them that no request is too small to talk to God about and that we can be assured His answer will be the best one.
ASSURANCE OF VICTORY
“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” (I Corinthians 10:13) Let’s face it, life is full of attractive offers to sin and our children know this. Teaching them that their life can be in lived in victory with the help of God, will give them a life of peace and joy and freedom from all the consequences of sin.
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (I John 1:9) Resisting temptation should be the goal but when that does not happen, remind your children they can have forgiveness by confessing their sins. They will have fellowship restored with their God and peace once again.
ASSURANCE OF GUIDANCE
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6) We all think we know what to do in life but if we trust our heart it will lead us down a wrong path because it’s natural inclination is for ourselves. However, teaching our children to lean on God means they will always be in the right path.
Not many children nowadays know the power of God’s Word but if we can instill these verses in our children’s hearts then others will quickly follow and our children will be ready to live in a fallen world.
Assurance to do right, live right and serve God. What more of a successful life could we want for them than this?
