“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5
Who killed Jesus many years ago?
Who is guilty of a crime so low?
Why did He have to die?
What is the reason why?
Who killed Jesus? I would like to know.
I heard this song when I was a child and it was so powerful that I never forgot it. This weekend people will be celebrating Easter. Most will not recognize it as a day to think of the sins Jesus paid on the cross for them. They will not rejoice that Jesus did not remain in the grave but rose again. Their thoughts will be on food, family and gifts. I want to remember why He lives. He lives because He rose from the dead after that horrific death on the cross. But as this song asks the question, it is definitely something to ponder. WHO killed Jesus?
Was it Roman soldiers, with their tools of war,
Driving nails through hands that did no wrong?
Mocking and abusing, crowning Him with thorns,
All the evidence is very strong.
“And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take.” Mark 15:24
Was is Pontius Pilate? He was governor,
Trying to decide the case that day.
Finding that the Savior, had no fault His own,
Was he guilty when he turned away?
“When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.” Matthew 27:24
Was it Hebrew children, proud of who they were?
Shouting “crucify Him” at their King?
Trading their Messiah, for a common thief,
Turning down the kingdom He would bring.
“And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews? And they cried out again, Crucify him.” Mark 15:12-13
When I think of Jesus and the way He died,
How upon Him all my sin was laid.
All the other people fade away from view,
Its for me the sacrifice was made!
I no longer wonder any more.
I have found what I’ve been looking for.
My sins demanded hell.
On Him the judgment fell.
I am guilty, now its plain to see,
That it was really me!

My sins demanded His death. Without this perfect sacrifice, my sins would take me to an eternal hell. No amount of good works would solve this for me. Praying to any other person would not see my salvation secured in Heaven. No, to enter and dwell with God the Father, God the Son had to make this ultimate sacrifice. My sins killed a perfect Savior but He went to the cross because He loved me that much. I rejoice this Easter weekend and every other day of the year that my name is written in Heaven. All the thanks go to Jesus for the sacrifice He made.
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
