When Prayer Is All That’s Left

Have you been there? The place where you do not know what to do next? The heart is aching and there is absolutely nothing you can do. The joy has left your heart as it shatters in pieces over a situation beyond your control and you wonder just what is next for you. Prayer! Prayer is all that we have left. When we want to take action the best action we can take is prayer! We may feel like we can’t do anything in the midst of this difficult situation but there is something we can do. There is an action we can take. We can pray. Prayer is all we can do so pray we must. Here are the words to a song that teaches us the blessing of prayer.  But, we should also want to pray Bible verses over the situation. I think it is so important to pray the Scriptures back to God but we won’t know what to pray back to Him if we don’t read our Bible. The book of Proverbs is filled with verses we can claim for our children, our trials and just any difficulty of life in general.  Here are some verses that you can pray back to God.

Proverbs 1:7

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” I’m praying that my children do not become fools who will not take instruction from authorities and do not fear the Lord. We are teaching them that the standard for their life – the only standard for their life – is God’s Word.  God’s Word never fails us. We must pray they fear God and desire wisdom and take instruction.

Proverbs 3:5-6

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” The prayer I see here is to ask God to nudge my child to trust Him and not their heart. We know the world tells us to follow our heart but we know that in Jeremiah 17:9 is says differently. “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” If we can teach our children to lean on God and not themselves; if we can teach them to always acknowledge God in their days then God (not their hearts) will direct their paths.

Proverbs 7:12

“Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.” There are so many promises like this in the Bible and they ring true for all of us. If we keep God’s commandments we will live and be at peace in this life. There are so many examples of people that decided to live outside of God’s commandments and are no longer living on this earth today. They died in horrible situations that would not have happened had they been living for God. I pray my child will live for God.

Proverbs 18:10

“The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” My children are blessed. Blessed to be raised in a Christian home. Blessed to have a father that leads them back to the Bible and to God. Why is this so important? Now that most of them are grown up, they can remember that their God is their refuge and when trouble comes they can run to Him and be safe. They can be at peace. They can rejoice in His goodness even in the midst of trials. This is a verse for me as well. From one trial to another over my lifetime, I have run to God and He has been my strong tower. And for your children who worry here is an article to help them.  When they worry, they can pray. We have just scratched the surface of verses we can pray over our children but these are great to start with. Which verses speak to you? Comment below with them so that we can all learn and be blessed. We may be walking a rough path right now but I can truly say that God is my shelter even during the storm.
