What’s In A Name?

What does your name mean to you? to your family? Begin today by learning some names of Jesus!

Jesus, name above all names Beautiful Savior, glorious Lord. Emmanuel, God is with us. Blessed Redeemer, Living word.

Jesus, name above all names…..are you humming it yet? I love this chorus. Simple but so profound. I’ll have my favorite singer singing it at the end but really, so simple and sweet. Jesus, He has so many names and I wanted to show you a few because this post would be too long if I shared them all. However, you can look at so many of them here, if you’d like further study.

ADVOCATE

This may be one of my favorite names because no matter how often I fail my God, Jesus is standing between us and a holy God to advocate for us. His blood shed for ME – my past, present and future sins – to have full forgiveness and access to the throne of God. “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:” (I John 2:1)

CREATOR

John 1:3 says, “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” Aren’t you glad He is known as Creator? Without Him, I’d not be here today. Without Him, my husband and children wouldn’t be here. We wouldn’t have the beautiful flowers and trees to look at or the changing of the seasons (yes, even here in Florida we notice some changes).

IMMANUEL

Herein lies another wonderful name of Jesus, Immanuel. Why? Isaiah 7:14 gives us a glimpse by saying, “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” As the song states, Immanuel means, “God with us”. This name was again repeated in Matthew 1 when an angel appeared unto Joseph and shared with him the wonderful message about his espoused wife, Mary. SHE would carry the Son of God. What an honor and what a name – Immanuel. God with us! God coming down in the form of man as a baby to become the Savior of the world. Glorious Lord! Savior or MY soul!

REDEEMER

As we approach Easter, we mustn’t forget that Jesus came to redeem us but the story wasn’t one that ended with Him dying on the cross. He redeemed us and our Redeemer lives on to show us He conquered death as we will someday! Job knew this (and he has been waiting awhile for that resurrection day) and said in Job 19:25, “For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:” My Redeemer lived, died and arose that early Sunday morning so that I could know eternal peace. Some of these names are mentioned in this short chorus that Michael Eldridge is singing but so many other great names of Jesus are still not listed but you can look them up and let them drink into your soul. The peace we have with our Savior, Jesus, is unparalleled to any peace you will find on this earth.

Jesus, name above all names!
