“If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” Galatians 5:25
We can become too attached to this world and all its trappings. Life here on earth is great. As a Christian and we can have joy every day as we thank God for all He has done for us. We have to be careful to not let the cares of this world weaken us in our desire to grow closer to God.
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (Romans 12:2) Knowing His complete will for us brings us closer to Him. When we are close to Him our hearts are weaned away from this world. We see eternity with a clear view. We can understand that living our life on earth with eternal values will keep us close to God.
Spirit of God, descend upon my heart;
Wean it from earth; through all its pulses move;
Stoop to my weakness, mighty as Thou art;
And make me love Thee as I ought to love.
Mr. Croly was born in Ireland but spent most of his adult life in England. He was a writer and a couple of his books were written on the Scriptures and poetry as well as hymns. Mr. Croly is pleading with God in this song to be taught and shown his weaknesses. He longs to serve God with his complete heart. He wants to love just as God loves us.
These may seem like daunting requests but if we can spend time in God’s Word then we will know better the mind of God and be able to grow in our spiritual life and remain close to Him. “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” (James 4:8) Being close to God is the most peaceful place to be. No harm can come to us spiritually when we are close to our Savior.
Task for today: Spend time seeking God in His Word and asking Him how you can be closer to Him today.
