How old was David when he penned songs about his God and praised Him? He was so young when he was anointed by God to be king. In his youth, he started praising God, talking to and probably about God.
William Ralph Featherston was possibly as young as 16 when he wrote this beautiful hymn that we still sing today. He lived in the mid-1800’s and died in his early 20’s.
The theology in this song shows a strength of character in the author that we need to instill in our children today. Sound doctrine and a godly way of thinking will put them in a far greater position in life than any sport they will play, education they will obtain or celebrity they will meet.
Two verses we don’t seem to sing often are worth looking at.
What a powerful verse as it reminds us that death and life are in His hands and He loved us so much that He died that we might have eternal life. John 5:24 says, ”Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” Belief in His abounding love, His death on the cross for my sins, His resurrection proving death has been conquered is all we need to have eternal life. No amount of good works will get us past heaven’s gate.
When He pardons us, He brings us a peace that passes all understanding. It’s a lasting peace and one that will bring a joy on even our darkest of days. Heaven is our home, our hope and our eternal destiny when we seek the forgiveness of our sins. Ephesians 2:14 reminds us, “For he is our peace,…” Do you know His peace?
Trust in His forgiveness and know His peace today.
