Have you ever heard someone say, “that was the one great love of my life”? I have a great love and it’s greater even than the love I have for my husband. It’s my love for my Savior. He came into my heart, accepted my confession of sin and forgave me and cleansed me within so that I can stand before God pure and ready to go to heaven. Can you say that? I can tell you more if you’d like.
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (II Peter 3:9)
Now that I have Jesus in my heart (for the past 40+ years), I truly have not only a great love but a friend like no other. I think this has to be one of my favorite hymns and I certainly love playing it on the piano. You can put so much expression into it. Enjoy the words and let them soak through you soul so that even on the hardest of days, you know you have a friend!
A friend I have called Jesus, Whose love is strong and true,
And never fails howe’er ’tis tried, no matter what I do;
I sinned against this love of His, but when I knelt to pray,
Confessing all my guilt to Him, the sin-clouds rolled away.
Do you have clouds in your life right now? I do! We can take heart that even when our Savior SEEMS far away – He isn’t. He will show us His mighty power when He parts those clouds!!
Sometimes when clouds of trouble bedim the sky above,
I cannot see my Savior’s face, and doubt His wondrous love;
But He, from heaven’s mercy seat, beholding my despair,
In pity bursts the clouds between, and shows me He is there.
Do you despair? Depression is real although I DO believe we can rely on God for our strength and sunshine. Sing! Pray! Trust God! He WILL bring sunshine after rain!
When sorrow’s clouds o’ertake me, and break upon my head,
When life seems worse than useless, and I were better dead;
I take my grief to Jesus then, nor do I go in vain,
For heav’nly hope He gives that cheers like sunshine after rain.
My favorite verse to play on the piano is this one. When the storms are past and the clouds are gone, we have peace. Can we sing through the storm? YES! Can we sing forever! Oh yes!! So as we heard the wind and the waves crashing over our soul and the storm is beating us down; through the storm we hear three powerful words just whispered, “Peace, be still!” The power of the storm is lifted and the clouds roll away! All creation obeys our God!
Oh, I could sing forever of Jesus’ love divine,
Of all His care and tenderness for this poor life of mine;
His love is in and over all, and wind and waves obey,
When Jesus whispers, “Peace, be still!” and rolls the clouds away.
The storm is past and the sun is shining and still we can sing FOREVER. Why? In grateful devotion to a Savior Who calms the storm and gives rest to our spirit. Keep singing—-
It’s just like Jesus to roll the clouds away,
It’s just like Jesus to keep me day by day,
It’s just like Jesus all along the way,
It’s just like His great love.
And when you want to worry remember this song and sing the hymns you grew up with. Read His Word or a good book on joy. If your children are worried have them looking to Him. The clouds WILL roll away!
