Life is hard. The truth is every day we are faced with battles of the world, the flesh and the devil with some being bigger than others but all being sent as an attack on our faith.
When we have our faith placed firmly in the saving grace of Christ, we not only have a refuge but we have a reason to look past the trials and have joy. We have Someone fighting on our side! We can be on His side! He will fight for us as we follow Him.
However, there are days when we just need to hide in Him and rest knowing He is battling for us, the storms of life.
William Cushing the author of the song, “Hiding In Thee” had every reason to give up, crawl into a hole and never emerge. Reaching middle age (which is not old, I’m here to say!), he lost not only the love of his life, his wife, but also his health. He was forced to step aside from pastoring a church and enter early retirement. He became interested in writing hymns and collaborated with some gospel composers at the time like Ira Sankey.
One day he prayed, “Lord, give me something that may glorify Thee,” and this song was born.
These powerful verses full of the hope we have of hiding in Christ and letting Him bear our burden is enough to keep us smiling through the harshest of days. Is He your refuge? He wants to be! He wants to surround us with His protection and love. Flee to Him and let Him be y our refuge today! For further encouragement, choose joy and you’ll be singing while you hide in Him.
“Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.” (Psalm 32:7)
