My Identity Is In Who?

Who are you? How do we know you are you? Our identity is tied to so many things these days. We have to have an ID or a driver’s license for so many places.  Seems we are always having to prove that the person in front of the cashier is the person on the driver’s license or that the name matches when we sign.

On another level, do I know who I am in Christ? Do I even know that my spiritual identity lies with Him? First, I know that I am identified with Christ because I accepted His saving grace when just a girl and recognized Him as my Savior. However, there are so many other ways we can see our identity in Christ.

I AM GOD’S MASTERPIECE

I, Julie, am a masterpiece of God. Let’s define masterpiece. It can be defined as, “an outstanding work of art or craft”. I am outstanding in God’s eyes. Why is that? Well, Ephesians 2:10 explains that one to us. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” So I am created in Christ unto good works. We are never saved BY good works but TO good works. As God’s masterpiece, I want to serve Him and show others how amazing my God is!

I AM HANDPICKED

Have you ever been at the grocery store and had to pick over a bunch of fruit to find just the right one for you? You didn’t ask someone else to do it, You chose the fruit you thought best. Or, have you gone to the pet society to choose a puppy or kitten for your kids and you chose the one that you wanted, right? That is how it was between God and us. He chose me.

He knew before the beginning of the world that I would be special to Him. How do I know this? Jeremiah 1:5 reminds us, “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee,…” As we read our Bible, lets remember that He knew we would come to Him and He sanctified us for good works. Again not UNTO salvation but BECAUSE of salvation!

I AM REJOICED OVER

Zephaniah 3:17 says, “The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.” God rejoices over me? Not only does He rejoice but He does it with joy! Not only does He joy in me but God does so with singing. How then can we as Christians not take time to rejoice in God and sing in joy about Him? I can never understand those Christians who refuse to sing and praise His name! If God rejoices over me then how much more should I rejoice over Him! SING JOYFULLY to and of your God!

I AM NOT FORSAKEN

This one always brings me much joy and comfort. I am not forsaken by my Heavenly Father. Too many times in this earthly life, I have been rejected by people. Is it difficult? Have I cried tears over it?  Am I left feeling hopeless? NEVER! Why? Psalm 94:14 shows us this. “For the Lord will not cast off his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance.” He is never going to leave me and that means that I will always have a Heavenly Father to go to when I need Him. He is my fellowship, my life, my joy and my peace. His desire to never leave me is exactly what I need to know day by day.

I AM PRECIOUS

Little babies, aren’t they precious? We sit and hold them and as we make those cute little noises, we are telling them how much they are loved and how precious they are to us.  I am precious in God’s eyes because I am His. Isaiah 43:4 tells us, “Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee:…”

When we know that we are precious to God, it should change our outlook not only in our personal life and how we live but on how we treat others. We should want others to be precious in His sight, too, right? Precious in His sight and loved are just two qualities I want to know in my daily life. Feelings come and go and emotions run high or not at all but I love being able to walk away with the knowledge that I am precious and loved by God. It is a cocoon to me!

So where does your identity lie? Do you know your identity as being in Christ’s? Can you rest in the comfort of knowing that you are solidly His? He wants you to be in Him and known of Him. He is waiting for you! Put yourself under His mighty hand and know that you belong to Him.
