My Hope Is In The Lord

Have you heard this song? I first learned it as a teen from some good friends and it quickly became a favorite of my dad’s. I taught it to my husband and we’ve introduced it in a few churches we’ve been in that didn’t know the song. Every one has loved it. Why? I think the title of the song speaks for itself but the verses are just as good.

He Gave Himself For Me

Hope came when we realized we were nothing without God. When we saw ourselves dressed in filthy rags with no way to stand clean before a holy and righteous God except by seeing Christ’s death on the cross as our hope. Salvation became that hope that we latched on to for eternal security.  Romans 5:2 assures us we have hope in the glory of God as we access faith by grace. “By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.”

I Had No Merit On My Own

No amount of wishful thinking will get us into the gates of heaven and not even hoping so. Literally, our only hope of eternal life IS at the foot of the cross. God created a perfect human being and when they sinned against Him, He knew the punishment was death. He loved His creation though and gave us a way out by sending Jesus to die for our sins.

No merit of our own could save us. We could never be good enough. Only Jesus’ blood could save us from an eternity in hell. Living uprightly cannot save us. The law was done away with the moment Jesus died on the cross. Romans 10:4 reminds us that righteousness comes from Christ. “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.”

He Named Me As His Own

What happened after that wonderful redemption? Jesus went back to heaven to intercede for us. He is standing between a righteous God and us, as sinners, pleading our case before God. He loved us enough to die for our sins and now stands between God and us as His blood is applied for our sins. Romans 8:34 says it best. “Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.”

I Can Recognize His Work In Me

What then is our plan? Christ did the work of salvation for us all we have to do is believe, recognize His marvelous work of love and receive Him. This is simple, full of hope and for everyone on this planet. Romans 10:9 gives us the gospel so clearly and simply. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

Hope is then bound up in Christ’s death on the cross. Our salvation is sealed forever when we place our hope and trust in Him. No need of fear or anxiety and no need to waking alone in this world when we have Christ, our Redeemer, by our side.

May our hope truly be in the Lord today!
