I Hope To Read This Weekend

While I always hope to read a lot both by myself and with Mellie it always depends on the day. That being said, it is always good to have a plan in place. So here are some suggestions on books to have on hand to read with your young children. Mellie is 9 and I’ve been reading to her since birth so she loves even big chapter books.

We read, The Children Who Stayed Alone, and she loved this one. Parents who had to leave the homestead, six children who had to take care of themselves and each other, a storm on the open prairie and some Indians. It’s been all so exciting.

Our current book is Scout, the series, was one of my favorites growing up especially the first one which took place during WWII.  There are seven books in this series and you may have your child asking for a German Shepherd for their own.

Want to continue the history lessons but don’t want them to know? Read some Dear America books which are written in diary form. My older girls loved them and we have many.  My late mother-in-law started collecting these as well as the Dear Canada series for them.  I have kept it up and have the whole series of Dear Canada that I have gifted my married daughter, minus one.  We’ll find it!

Another great series my older girls enjoyed was Mandie. She has so many adventures and these are quick reads.

There are so many good series and I could go on and on but we will finish with this one. I read so many of these to my older children (I still read them on my own). Cherry Ames series. She is a nurse just before and after WWII and I still love them. She is like Nancy Drew (always a mystery to solve) but nursing patients back to health. Fun, relaxing and a definite good read.

I hope you get to take time to read more. What are you currently reading? I have more suggestions here.
