How To Enjoy Science Class

“Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.” Daniel 1:4

Science – kids usually love this class.  As a mom who loves history and literature, science has never been my first love.  I do enjoy reading about God’s world around us.  I remember enjoying studying about clouds in grade school and for some reason I liked the periodic table of elements.

But as a homeschooling mom now, how do I keep the children interested?  What curriculum is the best for my children.  For years, I have enjoyed and used Rod & Staff’s curriculum on Science.  I have always loved the textbook approach to schooling so Rod & Staff was right up my alley.  However, as I continue to homeschool my sixth (and final) child, I can see every child learns differently.  Textbooks aren’t as exciting for her and although I believe copy work is important, for Science I think we can learn in a better manner.

If you want to just look through science books with your younger elementary children, I highly recommend Paperpie’s selection of science books.  We have so many and have learned so much from each one.

Melanie is in 5th grade now and last year I started helping a lady develop her Bible-based science curriculum that can be taught online or with books.  We are experiencing both ways.  It is through a ministry called Family Truth Ministries.  The Power Kids program has not only science lessons but games, activities, devotionals and so much more.  They have plans to add more and more lessons from all walks of science so you need to check this out.

Melanie is learning about atoms and I have to say, I’m learning, too!  I bought her the kit for atoms and we are having fun using all the activities found in it.  Yesterday, Melanie went on the site and played some of the games which reinforced what we are learning.

The great value in this course comes through strong as does the heart of all the Christian science people developing this program.  I have been a help to encourage and listen to the plans.  If I could encourage you to get a science program for your children ages 8+, it would be Power Kids!

Science doesn’t have to be dry and boring.  Science needs to be taught from the perspective of God’s beautiful world.  Why not have both and learn via Power Kids with your children!

I love homeschooling and each day brings something new and different that we do.  My last child is learning in an environment that is so much more hands on than textbooks.  I love textbooks but I am content with her learning in this manner!

“For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.” Proverbs 2:6
