What do you say to your children when bad things happen around them? How do you explain to them when you lose your temper? What do you say to them to explain their bad attitude? It is important for them to understand that God created a perfect world but man sinned and brought evil into it. They need to know that consequences followed their actions.
This is a devotional I’ve put into a book of devotionals for children. It is talking about the sin of man and the consequences of their sin. In this way it is good to not only share the wonderful Bible stories of heroic deeds with our children but to also impress upon them their need of salvation by showing them how Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden. We need to teach them that our actions have consequences.
“And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” Genesis 6:5
Adam and Eve sinned in the garden
Thus condemning the race of man.
Now in need of a Savior, redemption
The human race needed a saving plan.
When man sinned in the garden they ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. God couldn’t allow sin to remain. He sent them from the garden and now they had to work hard and live in a sinful world. Adam and Eve had children, worked, had trials and as the population grew the world became worse and worse. Noah, a descendent of Adam was living on the earth. God saw how wicked people had become and knew He had to punish the world.
Therefore, He asked his faithful servant Noah to build an ark and by faith, Noah did so. “By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.” (Hebrews 11:7) Noah took great steps of faith as he and his family prepared the ark. The rains came and he and his wife, their three sons and their wives were safe in the ark with animals of every kind. Even in the midst of a worldwide flood, God prepared safety for His people and His creation.
God spared the righteous family of Noah from destruction and gave them the promise to never destroy the earth again with a flood. His promise came in the form of a rainbow. “I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.” (Genesis 9:13) Simply put, God was giving us a sign that He would also give mankind a way to escape our sins when He would send His Son to die for us. Do you know His Son?
Task for today: Write your testimony of how you know God’s Son, Jesus, died for you.
