Great Is THY Faithfulness

God is so faithful and as I’ve thought about this timeless hymn about God’s faithfulness it struck me that we tend to be easily grateful for the material things He provides us. We thank Him for our daily food, water, shelter, jobs, etc. but our needs do not stop at just the physical. We have spiritual needs that He daily gives us through His abundant mercy. This left me filled with a peace that He will give me the need (spiritually) that I must have for today and then tomorrow and He will not fail. All I have needed His hands hath provided! GREAT is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!

What spiritual needs does He provide? They are innumerable.

PEACE

Winter is coming and we all know the storms it brings. Winter in our spiritual lives brings storms that batter us about and leave us feeling weak.  But no matter the storm we can be assured in God’s faithfulness to being peace. When that storm hits, remember what Psalm 107:29 says, “He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.”

JOY

When we arise in the morning to face a new day, do we have joy? Joy comes from that inner peace of knowing God is in control of every situation. Joy is a need that God provides. He knows that our day may not always end up filled with happiness but we can be filled with joy. Psalm 118:24 holds a great truth on joy, “This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”

HOPE

Noah Webster defines hope as: a desire of some good, accompanied with at least a slight expectation of obtaining it. If we did not live with hope then we would be very sad people indeed.  Each of my kids are in that time of their lives where hopes and dreams and goals abound. They are working towards fulfillment of these earthly things and that fills them with hope.

Spiritual hope brings the expectancy of heaven and the eternal life of rest and joy that awaits us there. I love that Jeremiah (17:7) reminds us, “Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.” Our earthly life is filled with things we hope to do but oh the greater knowledge in knowing our hope is truly in the Lord.

There are so many other ways He provides for our needs day by day and we could go on for a long time praising Him for each one. I hope this helps you as you read His Word and walk through life knowing that all you need (peace, joy, hope, etc.), He will provide.
