“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” I Thessalonians 5:18
I am grateful today for a mom that taught me to read at a very young age. The patience of Job this woman has had over the years teaching hundreds of kids to read while instilling in them the need to read God’s Word. She is still tutoring children today. She is in her late 70’s and will drive all over Toronto helping children with their reading.
Teaching us to read became important to my parents so that we could read God’s Word for ourselves. This became my goal as a mother, too and Mellie can now read her Bible on her own. I have always been grateful that I could teach my children at home. To see them reach milestones in their education and to be with them for these milestones has been so fulfilling. God, alone, was my strength for this time in my life.
The best activity you can do with your babies is reading to them. I have read to my kids for years, together or one on one. Opening a book can bring them along on wonderful adventures and learning that will increase their imagination and give them confidence. As you read, have them sketch what they are hearing or just anything in general. I have spent countless hours reading to my kids and I hope to do so with grandchildren some day.

I am grateful today for the ability to read, the love of books instilled in me by my parents and the amount of books I now have. Each book is a friend to me because I have delved into the book and gained so much from the plot, the characters and the images therein.
I can’t just recommend one book but I have an article I wrote here with recommendations for each age group. If you want some great adult devotionals you can find them here as well.
Do you have a favorite book from your childhood?
